Until they come out with Godmode Axe or Godmode Hammer I'd have to say swords for PvE.

It's not as black and white as that.
They're all good in their own ways. They all have different pros and cons. No one is blatantly better than the other.
From a PvE pov:
Axe - easy access to deep wound ([dismember]), AoE attacks ([triple chop][cyclone axe])
Sword - Amazing damage/utility ([dragon slash][for great justice][save yourselves])
Hammer - AoE knockdown/attacks ([earth shaker][yeti smash][crude swing])
They're all good. No one is better than the other.

Swords are very underused / underrated in pvp, axes and hammers are more common but the meta seems mostly axe these days.
Almost all pve'ers use swords apparently.

In PvE your best general purpose weapon is the Axe. They outdamage swords by far, while still letting you use a shield. Also, axe attacks don't rely on chaining attacks in a certain order, like hammer and swords do. In that way they are much more flexible because you can more from target to target very easily.
Hammers come next though. I rarely use hammers, but every time I come back to them I'm always impressed by how fun they are. They do have their annoyances though... mainly the slower speed, and the extra damage you'll take when using them. Also, most of the better hammer attacks have that nasty "lose all adrenaline" clause, which sucks.
And finally swords... I don't get why the PvE shortbus riders love swords so much, maybe it's because they were taught to use sever artery+ gash in pre-searing? Swords are alright at best. They have their uses and in some cases can be better than axes or hammers, but for the most part if you're using a sword you're gimping yourself. I have tried many builds with the sword, and they are never as fun or good as the axe, outside certain situations like farming melee bosses.
So I go with Axe and I always will.

Because of [dragon slash] and ["save yourselves!"].
I prefer Hammers for both PvE and PvP. Nothing like getting a well-timed KD.
PvE: Hammer, Sword, Axe.
PvP: Hammer, Axe, Sword.

Wrong. Swords get +42 damage every hit (DSlash), and once you add in Asuran Scan the damage is massive. Even if you add in DW, the axe comes up short damage wise.

Not all sword builds chain attacks, for example, DSlash.

Making your team practically invincible isn't really gimping yourself.

When it comes to pve, not big a fan of swords. The [dragon slash][save yoursel][fgj] build is pretty useful and [[hundred blades] can be used on some farming gimmicks but that's it.
Axes, I always run a [[warrior's endurance] build, gives me a really nice damage output. There's [[triple chop] and [[whirling axe] wich is pretty nice as well, the latter beeing more situational. [[cleave] is also pretty good. But there's more flexibility to it.
Hammers run the good old [[earth shaker] build, has some nice damage to it and extremely useful but that's the only thing I bother to run anyway.
As for pvp, for swords I only run the Conjure + [[Crippling slash] builds. Axes can run the [eviscerate][body blow] spike, or another [[warrior's endurance] version, again it has way more flexibility to it than swords. Hammers run the knock-lock stuff, very useful but not really a big fan of it.
Anyway, whatever you're doing it comes down to your personal choice. If you want efficiency and to get the job done, take in account what each weapon can do and the choices you have. If all you want to do is have some fun beating stuff with whatever makes you feel better, than do that.

Unless +42 damage every attack and +100 armor to your team is gimping yourself, you're very, very wrong.

That +100 armor doesn't come exclusive to the Godmode build.

Have to say, just because the Godmode is a sword build, doesn't make the weapon itself any better when - and I'm gonna risk saying it - that's probably the only decent thing you can run for it. So if you're out of luck and don't have Factions, swords will suck.

No, it doesn't. But save yourselves is most effective with the godmode build, which is why I said it.

You can say the same about axes and hammers. The only decent elite axe has is triple chop (I guess you could say cleave is decent, too). The only decent elite hammer has is earth shaker. Apart from those elites, the others are quite useless.

I don't wanna hear any of this "look at the sticky" crap. I want y'all's real opinion. I mean, imo axes are the best. thx:

Dragon slash build has an indefinite amount of adrenaline for 20 seconds, and even when FGJ is down, has better adrenaline than any other builds (unless you're running triple chop and always have multiple enemies around you). It makes less of a difference if you have a high allegiance rank, but it does make a difference at lower ranks.

DSlash builds also generally don't have problems with using multiple adr skills. For example, spamming Earth Shaker and Whirlwind Attack means less spamming of SY. Still not too problematic, but meh.

Dslash is the way to go for very difficult PvE imo. But it can make the game very boring so you gotta change it up a bit. I run HB or WE on most of my wars builds because of flexibility and AoE from a sword. Also you dont need DSlash to use SY! if i remember correctly. Imo it goes swords>axes>hammers. Everyone says that using Dslash is very repetative so why does no-one say that KDing all the time isnt repetative?
Thats just my opinion and everyone has a personal preference and play style.

Dragon slash means you can use save yourselves every 1 seconds for 30 seconds, the only thing that compares is the imbagon.
Also: Dragon Slash far and away out damages warrior's endurance.
In pve, there is absolutely no comparison even without save yourselves.
Warrior's endurance is great for pvp, kinda.
Earthshaker is fun, hammers are manly devastating hammer is also very worth using perhaps even in pve.

Effectiveness asside, couldn't you Run Enraged Smash on a hammer build with FGJ and SY! and run it pretty good at high allegiance rank?

personally, i prefer scythes, after that axe, then hammer, and finally sword.
however, i rotate the last 3 pretty frequently.

1) You can't spam enraged smash because of energy and recharge.
2) Unless every single enemy kites you, it's not going to be very effective.

Compared to earth shaker, it's garbage. Weakness isn't that good, and AoE knockdown > single target knockdown, by a long shot.
